about the Wood

The best American hardwoods, grown and harvested locally in Ohio, are used for all Sycamore Creek Woodworking products. Ohio is known for the high quality Cherry, Walnut, White Oak, Maple and other hardwoods. I use mostly hand selected furniture grade kiln dried wood. We also have access to natural air dried wood that has been seasoning for years. 

The best wood comes form the heartwood, the strongest part of the tree. We try to select mostly quartersawn or rift sawn wood for the most stable and the best grain quality wood.

The samples of available wood shows the range of colors and grain patterns. Cherry, White Oak, and Walnut are the standard woods I use. I do have other hardwoods that are available from time to time. If there is a hardwood you would like, please send me your request. We will do our best to obtain the wood of your choice.
